One of the best decisions we made while building an addition to our home was hiring Prather Construction. Mike Prather completed high-quality construction that was on schedule and on budget-turning a major renovation into an enjoyable and satisfying project.
In July 2002 we sought bids from a number of contractors to extend our home by building a new basement, kitchen, family room, and master bedroom with bath. We choose to work with Mike Prather based upon his competitive bid, outstanding references, and most importantly, his clear, friendly, and reliable communication skills.
The work that followed was superb. Mike worked directly with the architectural plans (no architect was involved in the building process) and he expertly guided us through by asking questions, flagging decision points, and offering suggestions as we went. He tracked the schedule meticulously.
The project stayed on schedule and we were given ample "thinking time" when major decisions needed to be made. All of the subcontractors hired by Prather Construction were excellent craftsmen and courteous professionals.
In addition, Mike was a pleasure to work with. He was always available to answer questions, and his easy-going manner and extensive experience took the stress out of home renovation.
Prather Construction takes great pride in its work and it shows. In fact, three years after construction was done, we called Mike with a question about a door lock. He returned our call promptly and connected us with a locksmith who solved the problem. We were completely satisfied with Prather Construction and recommend them highly.

I worked with Mike Prather of Prather Construction Company in 1999. Our project was an addition to the front of our Colonial style house. The Contemporary style addition - expanding the front hall dining room on the first floor, the bathroom and master bedroom on the second floor, and the basement.
We received several estimates and the final decision included two other companies. Mike came highly recommended and we chose his company. We have never regretted our decision. From the beginning to the end of our project, Mike and his employees were wonderful to work with. They enjoy their work and it shows.
Dependability - Mike was right on schedule. The project started the day he said it would. He worked with us and around our vacation schedules to minimize the disruption to our daily lives. His subcontractors showed up as scheduled (for the most part). If there was a delay, he let me know about it and worked it out. He was there everyday, starting his staff and the subcontractors off.
Attitude - Mike is cooperative in every way. He and the architect worked together to discuss and resolve problems. He brings intelligence to the project - both technical and aesthetic. I trust his opinion. If something went wrong, he never got defensive - he just worked to correct or resolve the matter.
Finances - The format of Prather Construction Company's bills were easy to read and understand. Many changes to the project were absorbed by Prather Construction Company, Inc., unless there was a significant financial impact. I never felt "nickel and dimed".
Quality - The carpentry and subcontractor's work (plumbing, electric, masonry, etc.) was exceptional. I feel that we have a fine addition to our home, which we will enjoy for a long time and enhance its value.
